The Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences at Sol Plaatje University (SPU) is a dynamic and growing academic division established in 2014 that provides a broad spectrum of science education and research opportunities across key scientific disciplines to meet regional and national needs. It comprises four core clusters—Biological and Agricultural Sciences, Computer Science and Information Technology, Mathematical Sciences, and Physical and Earth Sciences—offering undergraduate qualifications from diplomas through honours and master’s level that equip students with both theoretical knowledge and practical, problem‑solving skills in areas such as biology, chemistry, physics, data science, mathematics, computer science and agriculture. The faculty emphasises innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and responsiveness to real‑world challenges, such as data‑intensive computing and environmental sustainability, and plays a strategic role in supporting the Northern Cape through industry partnerships, applied research initiatives, and curriculum development that enhances graduates’ employability and scientific expertise.
